New Delhi Income Tax Department assigns PAN number to every citizen, through which it monitors the financial transactions of the concerned person. So that there can be no tax evasion from the government and financial fraud with the people can be prevented. To further strengthen monitoring, the Income Tax department asked all PAN users to link PAN with Aadhaar by June 30.
PANs not linked after this will become inactive or invalid from July 1. In such a situation it is important to know whether your PAN is invalid or valid.
Any individual or companies can easily check the validity or inactivation of Permanent Account Number i.e. PAN online. PAN can be checked online by entering details like name, father’s name and date of birth as entered in the PAN card. If you have not linked your PAN with Aadhaar, your PAN may be deactivated as per the guidelines. In such a situation, you will not be able to file ITR and will face difficulties in financial transactions along with many other types of work.
Follow the suggested steps to check whether your PAN is valid or not.
Verify the PAN details first
Go to homepage of PAN users e-filing portal.
Click on Verify Your PAN on the e-filing homepage.
On the Verify Your PAN page, enter full name, date of birth and registered mobile number and click on proceed.
A 6 digit OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number, enter it and click on validate.
This way your PAN details will be verified.
The PAN Aadhaar linking status will tell whether the PAN is valid or invalid
After verifying the details, you need to check the PAN-Aadhaar linking status to know whether your PAN is valid or invalid. However, if you have not linked PAN with Aadhaar before June 30, your PAN will become invalid after July 1.
PAN users first visit the official website of the Income Tax Department – incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/.
Open the Quick Links segment and select Link Support Status.
Enter your PAN and Aadhaar card number.
Click on ‘C Link Aadhaar Status’ option.
You will see the PAN-Aadhaar link status on the screen.
If your PAN and Aadhaar are linked, the screen will appear as Linked. If not linked, it will show details to link both cards.
