The Income Tax department has issued an urgent notice to PAN card holders saying that PAN Aadhaar linking has been made mandatory. The Income Tax Department has said that the PAN card will become inactive from April 1, so PAN holders may face huge losses if they do not link it within the stipulated time. A penalty of Rs 10,000 can be imposed on using an inactive PAN.
Check if your pancard is linked or not
You can check whether Aadhaar is linked with your PEN or not through the Income Tax website incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in. On the home page you will see the tab of ‘Link Aadhar’. After clicking on it give required details in new page. Enter the PEN number in the PEN column and the Aadhaar number in the Aadhaar column. If the number is not attached, a message will open confirming its linking. The website will ask you to login if your pen is already linked.
Unlinked PAN card closed
The Income Tax Department has said that if the PAN card is not linked with Aadhaar, from April 1, 2023, your PAN will be canceled under Section-139AA of the Income Tax Act.
