The Income Tax department has issued an urgent notice to PAN card holders saying that PAN Aadhaar linking has been made mandatory. The Income Tax Department has said that the PAN card will become inactive from April 1, so PAN holders may face huge losses if they do not link it within the stipulated time. A penalty of Rs 10,000 can be imposed on using an inactive PAN.

Check if your pancard is linked or not

You can check whether Aadhaar is linked with your PEN or not through the Income Tax website incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in. On the home page you will see the tab of ‘Link Aadhar’. After clicking on it give required details in new page. Enter the PEN number in the PEN column and the Aadhaar number in the Aadhaar column. If the number is not attached, a message will open confirming its linking. The website will ask you to login if your pen is already linked.

Unlinked PAN card closed

The Income Tax Department has said that if the PAN card is not linked with Aadhaar, from April 1, 2023, your PAN will be canceled under Section-139AA of the Income Tax Act. The PAN card cannot be used after this. The Central Board of Direct Taxes has said that taxpayers who do not link the PAN number with Aadhaar by March 31, 2023 will have to pay a fine ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000. The last date for linking PAN with Biometric Aadhaar is March 31, 2023. If you don’t link by tomorrow, your pan card will be cancelled.

If PAN and Aadhaar are not linked then you can request to link them again. For that you can also go to Inktex website and link. To link PAN and Aadhaar via SMS, type UIDPAN <12 digit Aadhaar number> <10 digit PAN> and send it to 567678 or 561561
People who have not linked their PAN card with Aadhaar may have to pay a late fine of up to 1000 rupees if they link it after March 31. Apart from that, PAN can also be deactivated and bank operations can stop.

First of all if your account is not created then first you register.
Go to Income Tax Department’s e-filing website (www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in).
On the website you will see an option ‘Link Aadhaar’, click here.
After login go to profile settings of your account.
In profile settings you will find option to link Aadhaar card, select it.
Enter your Aadhaar number and captcha code in the section provided here.
After filling the information, click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option shown below. After that your Aadhaar will be linked

Look specifically

While you prepare yourself for the PAN card Aadhaar card link process, keep in mind that you will receive an OTP on the registered number if you are opting for the online method. If there is a mismatch in any of the details that need to be sorted, you should go with the offline method.
