Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 : Government will provide free LPG connection and subsidy to women

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.O : The central government has provided domestic LPG gas to all women in India who use unsafe fuel. The wood used by women for cooking is very harmful to their body and it harms the health of women. Therefore, the central government has created the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana to provide gas to every household. Under this scheme, gas will be used for cooking in all households. Today almost all homes have gas facility.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched by the Central Government on 1 May 2016. This scheme has been created by the central government so that women who use unsafe fuel for cooking, use safe and clean fuel instead. Only women aged 18 years or above can avail Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and must have APL and BPL and ration card. Along with this, financial assistance of Rs 1600 is also given to women of APL, BPL and ration card holder families.

Objective of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

The main objective of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is that all women who use fuel for cooking at home are harmful to their health and that of their children. So they should use LPG gas instead of using firewood so that there is no harm to children and their health. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will benefit all those women who have ration card and BPL.

Apart from keeping women and children safe, the environment has also been made pollution free by getting gas under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. Eligibility for availing this scheme

• Applicant must be female.
• An adult woman belonging to any of the following categories.
• Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families
• Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural)
• The most backward class
• Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY)
• Tea and Ex-Tea Garden Tribes
• Forest dwellers
• People living in islands and river islands
• Applicant should be 18 years of age.
• There should be no other LPG connections in the same house.
• Female applicant should belong to BPL family.
• Age of woman should be more than 18 years.
• Female applicant should have BPL card and BPL ration card.
• Any LPG connection should not already mention the name of the applicant or any family member.
• Applicant must have a bank account.

Benefit under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

Cash assistance for PMUY connections is provided by Government of India – Rs. 1600 (Rs. 1150 for 14.2kg cylinder/ 5 kg cylinder for connection). Cash assistance covers:

Cylinder Security Deposit – Rs.1250 for 14.2 kg cylinder / 800 for 5 kg cylinder
Pressure Regulator – Rs. 150
LPG Hose – Rs. 100
Domestic Gas Consumer Card – Rs. 25
Inspection/Installation/Demonstration Charges – Rs. 75
Further, all PMUY beneficiaries will be provided with both free first LPG refill and stove (hotplate) along with their deposit free connection through Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).
