Farmers in four districts of Saurashtra have suffered heavy losses due to heavy rains. The government initially turned a blind eye to this loss. But now it has announced help for damages. However, the conditions of that help are harming the farmers instead of benefiting them.

How much assistance will be provided?

Farmers in the state will get compensation for crop damage. The government has announced a support package of Rs 531 crore for farmers. In this package, compensation will be given to 5 lakh farmers in an area of 7.65 lakh hectares. At present, after the completion of the survey on the damage caused to the farmers, the work of giving the assistance package will be started. 6,800 per hectare will get assistance.

State government spokesperson Minister Jitubhai Vaghani said that a relief package of Rs 531 crore has been announced for 9 districts. All will be given assistance as per SDRF rules. Applications can be made from December 6 to 24 to get assistance. The cost of online application will also be borne by the government. Assistance will be given within the limit of two hectares. Government will provide assistance to the farmers of Banaskantha, Botad, Surendranagar, Bhavnagar, Chotaudepur, Panchmahal, Amreli, Bharuch, Vadodara.

Farmers of 2554 villages of these 14 districts will get assistance
Spokesman Minister Jitubhai Vaghani has said that the BJP government, which is committed to the interests of farmers, has taken another farmer-oriented decision under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Matabar has today announced an agricultural relief package of Rs.531 crore in respect of crop losses to farmers in 9 districts of the state as a result of heavy rains in the state.

Spokesperson Minister added that earlier the state government had announced the relief package in the first phase, after which a survey was conducted before Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on the demand of farmers from other districts. After the completion of the survey, more than five lakh farmers of 1530 villages of 39 talukas of 9 districts of the state will be covered under this package and paid assistance as per SDRF norms. Farmers of Ahmedabad, Botad, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Bharuch, Chotaudepur, Panchmahal and Vadodara districts of the state are covered under this package.

Assistance of Rs.30 thousand per hectare for plantain crop

Raghavji Patel said that under this support package, it has been stipulated that the farmers who have 33 percent and above crop loss will get Rs. 6800 assistance will be provided from SDRF as well as state budget within a maximum limit of two hectares.

While for the loss of plantain crop a total of Rs. 30,000 per hectare assistance up to a maximum of two hectares (Rs.13500 per hectare from SDRF budget plus additional assistance from state budget of Rs.16500 per hectare) is provided in this package.

How to apply?

To avail the benefit of the package, the farmers have to fill in the prescribed application form Village Sample No.8-A, Palm Plantation Pattern/Village Sample No. 7-12, copy of bank passbook page showing Aadhaar number, mobile number, bank account number, IFSC code and name, “no-objection agreement” signed by the other holders stating that the benefit is given to one of the joint holders in case of joint account etc. Along with the Taluka Development Officer online application has to be made in the prescribed format.

Farmers will not have to pay any fees or expenses for applying, the state government will bear the cost, the agriculture minister also said while giving details of this support package.
