The name of this scheme is ‘Solar Rooftop Subsidy Yojana’. This scheme is being run by the Government of India to promote Solar Rooftop in the country. With the Solar Rooftop Scheme, the Central Government will encourage never-ending energy use in the country. The central government provides subsidy on solar rooftop installation to the consumers for this.

Eligibility criteria for the scheme

The solar cells and solar modules used in the solar rooftop system should be manufactured in India.

For setting up solar system for power connections for common facilities the premises should be owned by the Group Housing Society / Residential Welfare Association(RWA).

A 3-phase solar system may be permitted for residential purpose connection to feeders which have permanent 3-phase power supply throughout the day.

Duration of Solar Rooftop Scheme:

The policy implementation period will be till the financial year 2023-24.

Solar rooftop systems installed and operated on private residential houses will be eligible for subsidy as follows:

Prerequisites for availing subsidy for solar roof top scheme installed earlier:

The previously commissioned solar system has a capacity of 10 kW. should be less than,

The total capacity of the solar system with increased capacity of the previously commissioned solar system is 3 KW. Up to 40% subsidy will be eligible only on increased solar capacity

If the total capacity of the solar system with additions is more than 3 kW and 10 kW or less then only the added solar capacity will be eligible for 20% subsidy. Subsidy will not be available on total solar system capacity exceeding 10 KW.

Benefits of Surya Urja Rooftop Yojana 2023

Free electricity: The cost of installing a solar plant will be recovered in approximately 5 years, then the additional electricity generated will be available for free for the remaining 20 years, thus it is also beneficial in terms of investment.

Excess electricity will be purchased by the power company: If the power is generated in excess of the consumption, it will go into the grid, which will be purchased by the power company for 25 years at a price fixed by the Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Increase in income : The electricity company will buy the unit other than your consumption at rs.2.25/Unit. At the end of every financial year, the excess amount deposited in the electricity bill will be returned to your bank account.

Free maintenance for 5 years: After installation of solar roof top plant, the agency will maintain the system free of charge for 5 years.
